The restored independent Lithuanian Customs Service began operating in 1990. The Customs Service of the Republic of Lithuania under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Lithuania consists of the Customs Department, the Customs Criminal Service, the Customs Training Centre, the Customs Laboratory, the Customs Information Systems Centre and three territorial customs offices – Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda. Currently, the Customs Service employs about 2,000 employees.

Since 1 May 2004, when Lithuania joined the EU, the activities of the Lithuanian Customs Service have been regulated by the Community Customs Code.
As one of the customs administrations of the Member States of the European Union, the Lithuanian Customs Service also checks the promotion of open trade, the functioning of the European Union internal market, the implementation of the common commercial policy and other trade measures of the European Union's common policies, as well as ensuring the security of the supply chain of all goods.
After Lithuania's accession to the EU, the customs offices at the state border with Poland and Latvia have ceased to operate. However, Lithuanian Customs is responsible for protecting the border with Belarus and Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast) and implementing sanctions.
The Lithuanian Customs actively participates in the activities of the European Customs Sport Association (ECSA), promoting physical activity and team spirit among its employees. By participating in this association, Lithuania contributes to organizing sports events and strengthens international ties with other European countries. Customs officers take part in various sports tournaments and competitions, encouraging a healthy lifestyle and well-being among colleagues.

The Lithuanian Customs also organizes sports events in the country, which not only enhance team spirit but also contribute to the overall goals of customs work. These events help develop cooperation with other nations and increase the visibility of Lithuanian Customs on the international stage. Furthermore, participation in ECSA activities allows customs employees to exchange experiences with colleagues from other countries and gain new ideas and practices. Lithuania also supports various sports projects that help improve collaboration between international institutions and strengthen the unity of the countries belonging to ECSA.
